I’m a huge fan of Ciaté, and I’ve also been looking for a new top coat as I’m falling out of love with my Seche Vite, it shrinks my nail varnish back, looking like I’ve not painted the edge of my nail. So when I saw this in TK Maxx for £3.99 rather than the £9 retail price, I just had to give it a try.
At first, I thought it was a regular top coat but after looking it up on the Ciaté website I noticed it claimed to have a ‘seriously summery fragrance’ which made me even more excited! I love the smell of coconut; it reminds me of holidays and summer.
My first impression was that the top coat was rather thin compared to other top coats I’ve used in the past, but it didn’t go on streaky or patchy it applied smoothly. Another thing I noticed was the drying time almost double what my Seche Vite was, so that was a bit of a downside as I’m used to my top coats drying super fast.
Once it eventually dried (~10 minutes) I decided to give it a sniff to see if it did smell like coconut, I was expecting it to smell like the usual coconutty suntan lotion smell we all love, but it smells like coconut macaroons! I was impressed with the scent, and it was fairly potent too.
I’ve had it on for almost a week now, and the coconut scent stayed strong for about four days which I was impressed with, lasted through showers, lots of hand washing and doing the dishes, it has since faded off and isn’t as noticeable, but it’s still there.
As far as the wear and tear, it’s holding up great! It isn’t as shiny as Seche Vite, as Seche Vite makes my nails look like they have gel on them, this just looks like a regular nail varnish. I haven’t had any chips so far, which is amazing for such a thin top coat.
All in all, I will probably be reaching for this more than my Seche Vite as I love the scent, the lasting power is amazing, and it doesn’t shrink my nail varnish!
I highly recommend this, and I will be purchasing it again and again, and I would pay full price for it if I can’t find it in TK Maxx again!
